Packing light for Egypt
Heavy luggage multiplies heat. One carry-on per person forces choices that improve every passage — stairs, taxis, hotel rooms with limited floor space.
Everyone wears
- Two breathable outfits — rotate wash overnight
- One modest layer for mosques and AC
- Brim hat, sunglasses, comfortable closed shoes for ruins
- Sandals for hotel and boat only
Toiletries minimized
Sunscreen is the non-negotiable bulk item. Everything else buy locally if forgotten — Cairo pharmacies stock familiar brands.
Children
One comfort object, not three. Tablet loaded with offline maps beats extra toys. Snacks for day one only — Egyptian fruit is part of the trip.
Leave home
Hair dryers, excessive electronics, hardcover books, multiple shoes "just in case." Egypt rewards travelers who carry attention, not wardrobe options.
